12/12/2023LASTORN technology: innovation in additive manufacturing (AM) that marks a technological milestone
This project has also been possible thanks to financial aid from the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), which was essential for its success and completion.
What is LASTORN technology?
The integration of an additive technology device on a Geminis CNC lathe.
The processes tested in the LASTORN project include Laser Cladding (LC) and High Speed Laser Cladding (HSLC). These have proven effective with a variety of alloys, including austenitic stainless steel (AISI 316L) and hot work tool steel (AISI H13). In addition, the use of the Ni superalloy Inconel 625 is being developed.
Advantages of LASTORN technology
One of the most outstanding advantages is the powder deposition efficiency, which can reach up to 95% in both LC and HSLC. This translates into deposition rates of up to 1 kg/h, enabling fast and efficient production.
Main features of the HSLC module
- High deposition rate
- Solid coatings with good adhesion
- Absence of significant defects (porosity between tracks, pores and cracks)
- Minimal heat-affected zone and distortion of coated parts
- Final product with improved quality and durability
LASTORN technology applications
LASTORN technology has several potential applications in industry. It can be used to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of industrial parts, and for the repair of damaged or worn parts.
